Mini electrifies sales
Mini is celebrating sales of its Electric Hatch in New Zealand increasing by 191 per cent in 2022, when compared with the previous year.
The marque sold 271 of the fully electric units last year, equivalent to nearly one in every three Minis registered or 60.9 per cent of its three and five-door hatch market.
Additionally, combined electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models made up 54.8 per cent of total Mini sales in 2022.
Activity in the New Zealand market was echoed globally, with the 43,744 electrified vehicles Mini delivered last year an increase of 25.5 per cent from the tally in 2021.
Overall, the marque sold 292,923 new models in 2022 and purely electric vehicles accounted for 15 per cent of the units.
Stefanie Wurst, head of Mini, says: “The continued success of Mini models with electric drive confirms the brand’s path to an all-electric future.
“With a clear focus on sustainability with a minimal environmental footprint, Mini is attracting more and more customers worldwide who enjoy the electrified go-kart feeling.”
The carmaker notes sales in Japan were seven per cent higher year on year, with 19,530 units sold. Its markets in India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam also saw strong growth and recorded their highest annual sales figures in 2022.
The John Cooper Works brand notched a record 23,005 sales worldwide last year, up 8.9 per cent from 2021’s figure.
