MG to launch IM6

MG Motor’s IM model range is being launched here after expressions of interest in the fully electric IM6 from local dealers.
Peter Ciao, chief executive officer of MG Motor Australia and New Zealand, says the fully electric SUV sets a new benchmark for “attainable dream cars, combining AI-enhanced engineering, exhilarating performance and elegant design”.
He adds: “With magnetic accessory points spaced throughout the vehicle and customisable user interfaces for elevated cabin interaction, the IM allows owners to create a personalised experience. The response so far has shown New Zealand drivers are ready for the future.”
From November, prospective owners can experience first-hand the IM6, which marks a significant milestone for MG Motor and its premium brand IM.
The first-generation IM digital chassis offers four-wheel steering across the line-up. The SUV achieves centralised control across steering, braking, suspension and electric drive.
Additionally, the IM6 Performance comes equipped as standard with air suspension and continuously control damping for enhanced driving and comfort. These features will be available for the Platinum variant as optional extras.
IM has pushed working voltage to 875V. As one of the highest among mass-production EVs today, it offers quasi-900V architecture, while 396kW ultra-fast charging adds 300km range on the NEDC in just 15 minutes. The 21,000rpm Hurricane Motor delivers instant power.
IM’s intelligent driving system IM AD pushes boundaries. Supported by Momenta, the assisted system offers safe, comfortable and reliable motoring.
With powerful computing and rapidly evolving algorithms, IM Motors is one of the first brands to achieve mass-production capabilities across levels two to four of intelligent driving at the same time.
IM AD is jointly built with Momenta, one of the world’s first companies to achieve mass production of end-to-end large model-based autonomous systems. It also possesses a strong capability to adapt to new road environments.
For instance, by learning from the motoring environment in New Zealand, Momenta’s system has come to grips with conditions and driving styles, including:
• Navigating intersections in the absence or degradation of lane markings.
• Interactive lane changes, which avoid abrupt cut-ins. Instead, the system evaluates a range of dynamic factors, such as speed and nearby large vehicles, to execute lane changes in a smooth manner.
• Automated parking assistance that’s capable of handling more than 30 complex scenarios including narrow alleys and underground garages. The system is highly adapted to local parking norms.
Inside the IMB, there’s a 10.5-inch central touchscreen, 26.3-inch infotainment display and panoramic sunroof.
The SUV, which starts at $66,900 for the Premium, is equipped with fully collapsible chairs, luxury seat finishes, smart device magnets and 20 high-definition audio speakers. Rear passengers enjoy “vast” legroom with a 2,950mm wheelbase.
The IM6 has bidirectional rear-wheel turning technology, offering up to 12 degrees of articulation. This advanced system dramatically reduces the turning circle.
The IM6 Platinum, which starts at $77,900, has a range capable of 670km NEDC and can be charged from 30-80 per cent in 15.2 minutes. The Performance is priced from $89,900.
