MG claims $40k EV first

MG New Zealand has revealed a variant in its upcoming fully electric MG4 range will become the first new EV in the country to have a sub-$40,000 post-clean car discount (CCD) price.

The MG4 51kWh Excite will have a presale price from July 1 of $46,990 which, after applying the $7,015 rebate effectively reduces the transaction price to $39,975 – plus on-road costs.

“This is massive news for the New Zealand EV market,” says Arek Zywot, country manager for MG NZ. “We are proud to be able to offer the most affordable new fully electric vehicle to Kiwis who want zero-emissions motoring.

“MG has been leading the charge with attainable electric vehicles since the launch of the local award-winning ZS EV and, with the debut of the dynamic new MG4 and sub-$40,000 post-rebate 51kWh model, we maintain leadership position in this space.”

The first examples of MG4s are expected at dealerships around from the late third quarter of this year. Pre-sale pricing, plus on-roads, from July 1 for the range is as follows, meaning all models qualify for the full CCD rebate – 51kWh Excite: $46,990, 64kWh Excite: $51,990, 64kWh Essence: $54,990, 77kWh Essence: $63,990.
