McLaren unleashes drop-top supercar

McLaren has revealed a new convertible supercar that can reach a top speed of 330kph and will be limited to just 765 custom-built models.

The McLaren 765LT Spider is also the UK marque’s fastest-accelerating LT as it can clock 0-100kph in 2.8 seconds and goes from 0-200kph in 7.2 seconds.

It is powered by the same four-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 as its stablemate, the 765LT coupe, producing 755bhp and 800Nm of torque.

The electrically operated, single-piece carbon-fibre retractable roof lowers or raises in 11 seconds and can be operated at speeds of up to 50kph.

Weighing in at 1,388kg, the convertible is only 49kg heavier than the regular 765LT. This has partly been achieved by air-conditioning and an audio system being removed from the standard features, although they can be added as a no-cost option.

An eight-inch central infotainment screen is a feature of the interior and eight colour themes have been designed, mixing the interior Alcantara fabric colours with unique contrast stitching.

McLaren Special Operations has defined two optional packs for the car. The MSO Clubsport Pack has carbon-fibre racing seats and upgraded brakes to reduce overall weight further. While the MSO LT Black Pack offers a gloss-black finish to a number of external components such as the front splitter, rear bumper, air intakes and mirror casings.
