McIntyre takes new circuit podium

Nelson racing driver John McIntyre came away with silverware from the first-ever motor racing event at the new Cromwell Circuit – Highlands Motorsport Park. Competing in a Porsche 911 GT3, McIntyre and co-driver Simon Ellingham qualified second and finished third in the final round of the South Island Endurance Series held last Saturday. In a field of more than 40 cars, they sprinted into the lead for the first 40 minutes of the three-hour race. The Fastway Porsche Team also entered the Highlands 101 invitational race with the fastest 33 race cars on the same grid. Up against faster GTs from Australia, the pair put in an excellent performance to finish 10th. McIntyre says: “It was a fantastic weekend and something I won’t forget in a hurry. The circuit grows on you and to have a trophy from the first meeting there is very special.”
