Mazda was market leader for overall passenger sales and the medium SUV segment in April driven by continuing strong demand for the Mazda CX-5.

Sales of 760 units in the sector delivered Mazda 11 percent market share. The Mazda CX-5 was the top selling passenger vehicle with sales of 317, significantly ahead of its nearest competitor and third best-selling model overall (including commercial vehicles). Four of the top five selling vehicles in April were commercial vehicles. The Mazda3 finished in eighth position overall.

Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge, says the result highlights the strength of Mazda’s SUV and passenger line-up.

“The CX-5 continues to deliver outstanding results six years after the first model was launched in New Zealand.  It has become a firm favourite with the motoring public who want a vehicle that delivers outstanding design combined with comfort and performance.”

The result comes at the start of a busy few months for Mazda that will see the launch of the highly anticipated First-Ever Mazda CX-8 as well as upgrades across a number of other models.

“We are already experiencing high levels of interest in the all new Mazda CX-8 and believe it will be a great addition to the Mazda SUV range that is already dominating this sector of the market,” says Hodge.
