Lexus backs sports events
Lexus New Zealand is returning to the ASB Classic in Auckland this summer as the tennis tournament’s official vehicle and sponsor.
Vice-president Andrew Davis says the event will have a bolder presence of the marque than in 2024 and will include a series of “activations” for fans to enjoy. The new LBX Morizo RR will also feature.
“This year’s tournament was fantastic, so we are excited to bring even more Lexus to this summer’s event,” says David.
“The organisers of the ASB Classic are driving all-electric RZ 450e SUVs, which are helping to reduce the tournament’s carbon footprint, and we’ll provide a fleet of Lexus electrified vehicles for officials, players and other guests.
“We will also take the opportunity to showcase the LBX Morizo RR, a performance compact model that will bring a real thrill to performance enthusiasts.”
Rising Kiwi star, Lulu Sun, pictured, has reached a career-high ranking of 39 and was the first feature player named for the 2025 ASB Classic. Alejandro Tabilo, who this year reached his career-high ranking of 19th, is returning to defend his title.
The WTA women’s tournament at ASB Tennis Arena runs from December 30 to January 5, with the ATP men’s event on from January 6-11.
Urban polo returns
The luxury marque is also returning to the polo fields of Auckland and Christchurch next year as principal sponsor for Lexus Urban Polo.
Davis says the Lexus ethos of “pushing boundaries, delivering unrivalled experiences and offering superior hospitality” aligns with the sport.
“Hospitality, which is key to an event like Lexus Urban Polo, is a value deeply rooted in Japanese culture,” he explains.
As the only luxury polo event in the heart of both major cities, Lexus aims to deliver an unforgettable day of sport, summer fashion and entertainment.
Lexus Urban Polo returns to Hagley Park, Christchurch, on February 15 and Auckland Domain on March 8.
“The spirit of hospitality, expressed through omotenashi, is integral to Lexus,” says Davis. “Each year at our Lexus marquee, we aim not just to welcome guests but to anticipate and fulfil their needs, ensuring they have an amazing experience.”
Urban polo’s contemporary spin on the traditional sport, known as f3polo or fast3polo, promises a more engaging experience.
With faster games, a smaller field for better viewability, simplified rules and shorter chukkas – that’s to say, quarters – it’s a polo experience “like no other”.
It’s played on a compact field of 170m by 60m, with the six riders and ponies charging at speeds of up to 40kph.
