There were 9,504 new passenger vehicles registered in October, which was down by 5.2 per cent from 10,022 units in the same month of last year.

In year-to-date terms, there have been 71,246 sales so far in 2024, which is down 21.1 per cent from 90,333 at the same stage a year ago.

Toyota’s RAV4, pictured, was October’s top model on 1,354 units, up from 1,103 in the same month a year ago, and accounted for 14.2 per cent of the market.

It is also the leading model for the year-to-date after selling 7,660 units and has increased its share of activity to 10.8 per cent .

Next on the monthly chart was Kia’s Seltos with 543 registrations and the Mitsubishi ASX on 537, giving them both a 5.7 per cent market share.

Mitsubishi’s Outlander and the Kia Sportage completed the top five last month after selling 429 and 299 units respectively.

The ASX is second on the year-to-date chart with 3,193 units, followed by the Outlander on 2,954, the Seltos with 2,914 and the Suzuki Swift on 2,326.

Toyota topped the marques’ ladder in October with 2,420 registrations – down 9.4 per cent from 2,672 in the same month a year ago – and 25.5 per cent of the market. 

Kia was second with 1,299 sales and 13.7 per cent and Mitsubishi came third on 1,174 and 12.4 per cent. Ford and Mazda were next on the ladder with 678 and 486 units respectively.

Toyota is the leading marque year to date with 15,445 units and a 21.7 per cent market share.

Mitsubishi is second with 8,165 registrations and 11.5 per cent, with Kia third on 7,754 and 10.9 per cent.
