Kia takes out gong for best car

Kia’s EV6 has been crowned the 2022 car of the year by What Car? with judges praising its  “huge real-world range with the ability to charge at speeds that even some Teslas can’t keep up with”.

The model topped the annual awards run by the UK car-buying platform and it is the second time Kia has won the overall title with a new electric car.

The Korean marque enjoyed its maiden win in 2019 with the Kia e-Niro.

The EV6, pictured, stood out for judges with its official range of 528km and the ability of its battery to go from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 18 minutes using super0fast 800V charging.

Steve Huntingford, What Car? editor, says: “Once again, Kia has set a new benchmark for an electric vehicle. The EV6 is a terrific all-rounder that answers electric car buyers’ questions around range and charging times brilliantly, and which offers terrific space, refinement and value for money.”

Other winners at the recent awards ceremony in London included BMW with five category victories, including best luxury SUV for its BMW X5.

Ford was the next most successful marque with three awards, of which its Ranger being crowned top pick-up was one.
