Kia backing the Canes
The car company on the front of the Hurricanes’ away jersey has reaffirmed its commitment to the Super Rugby Pacific franchise by extending its contract for the next two seasons.
Todd McDonald, managing director of Kia NZ, says: “2025 is a significant milestone in the partnership between the two brands as it marks the 10th year of our involvement with the team.
“It was an innovative sponsorship when launched as Kia was the first standalone away jersey sponsor among all Super Rugby franchises. From small beginnings, it has grown to become a pivotal association within our local sponsorship portfolio.
“Agility, power, speed and precision are attributes associated with the Hurricanes, and are similarly found in models in the Kia range. Both organisations share a future vision of sustainability and innovation, so there are many strong synergies on and off the field.
“We wish the team all the best for what promises to be a huge season full of fast-paced action.”
Avan Lee, the Hurricanes’ chief executive officer, said the longstanding partnership is also testament to shared values relating to community support and engagement through rugby.
He adds: “The Hurricanes are a winning team full of champions. It’s exciting to represent a champion brand such as Kia and to have it in such a prominent position on the front of our away strip.
“Kia has been backing black and yellow since 2016 and we’re grateful for its ongoing support as a major partner.”
The Hurricanes’ Super Rugby Pacific season kicks off in Christchurch on February 14.
