Archibalds and Volvo Cars Christchurch have announced their continued backing for two schools this year by handing them both a new plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model.

The companies, which operate a dealership on Tuam Street and are part of the Miles Group, have joined forces to support Christ’s College School and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School.

They are continuing their tradition of supporting the two Christchurch schools into 2025 by delivering each of them the latest Volvo XC60 PHEV.

Ash Pearson, Miles Group’s assistant marketing manager, says: “As long-standing Cantabrian organisations, both Archibalds and Christ’s College share a rich history in our region.

“As one of New Zealand’s most prestigious educational institutions, Christ’s College represents everything we value at Archibalds – tradition, excellence, along with a commitment to developing future leaders within our organisations.

“As we enter a new chapter in our partnership, we’ve chosen the new Volvo XC60 for its sustainability, presentation, intelligence, and forward-thinking as a reflection of our values.

“Christ’s College continues to set the standard for educational excellence in New Zealand, and we’re proud to stand alongside them.”

The XC60 PHEV has a range of up to 67km when using its electric-only engine for shorter trips and has the flexibility to switch into a petrol-hybrid engine for longer journeys.

It also has 468 litres of luggage capacity, which Archibalds says makes it perfect for students’ home or away games.

Benn McBrearty, the school’s director of sport, says: “We’re really excited about the partnership with Archibalds and Volvo – it’s a great fit with the values and direction of Christ’s College Sport.

“It’s more than just a sponsorship; it’s a connection built on a commitment to excellence, innovation and community.”

Meanwhile, Archibalds and Volvo Cars Christchurch also recently handed over the keys to a new PHEV to staff at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School, pictured below.

Since 2019, they have been among the main supporters of the private school and have been especially involved in its hockey team.
