GM targets growth in NZ
General Motors has announced the promotion of Mike MacPhee to the new role of president of Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
The company says MacPhee, pictured, will work closely with GM teams in those markets to accelerate development and deliver commercial growth strategies.
Reporting to him will be Jess Bala, managing director of GM ANZ, Jack Uppal, president and managing director of GM Africa and Middle East, and Jean-Pierre Diernaz, acting managing director of GM Europe.
MacPhee, pictured, says: “We have an incredible opportunity to get more and more people behind the wheel of a GM vehicle and to earn their trust for life.
“I’m looking forward to working with our great teams and partners around the world to bring our world-class vehicles and technologies to market.”
GM notes he has a track record of driving innovation and performance in sales. In his current role, he has helped Chevrolet move from ninth to second in US EV sales, as well as Chevrolet achieving annual market share growth for the past three years.
In his prior role as marketing director Chevrolet Trucks, he led teams that steered the brand ahead of the Ford F-Series in overall US retail truck sales in 2022.
MacPhee started his GM career in Canada in 2007 and held a number of field, marketing and sales roles before leading sales and marketing for Buick-GMC and then for Chevrolet in that market.
He took up his new position from November 15 and reports to Rory Harvey, GM’s executive vice-president and president of GM global markets.
“Across our brands, we have our best-ever vehicle portfolio, and we are rolling out new connectivity, autonomous and software technology around the world,” says Harvey.
“This is a critical moment for our business to ensure we are fully leveraging this opportunity to win more customers, delight them with our driving and ownership experiences and earn their loyalty for the long term.”
