Gilchrist extends advantage

Brock Gilchrist has extended his lead in the Toyota 86 Championship after securing two wins from three races in the latest action at Taupo International Motorsport Park.

He now holds a 90-point advantage over Clay Osborne with just two more rounds to go in the six-round competition.

The two drivers went toe to toe in the 12-lap finale at Taupo over the weekend of March 18-19, before Gilchrist took the chequered flag to add to his victory in race one.

Dion Pitt secured third spot after a compelling battle behind the leaders with John Penny, who was seeking a second podium of the day after winning race two.

Gilchrist hopes to continue his strong form this season when the drivers compete again at Manfeild – Circuit Chris Amon from April 14-16.

“I had pressure from Clay and from lap one he was on my bumper,” he says of the latest race.

“It was cool to beat him but I’m still just taking one race at a time and focused on getting the good results each time we are on the track.”

Drivers’ standings

2. Clay Osborne, 714pts
3. Dion Pitt, 628pts
