Players were treated to perfect conditions for the Provident Insurance Golf Classic in Hamilton.

More than 100 people from the automotive industry and associated businesses took to the fairways to do battle in an annual tournament.

Networking, laughter, beer and the chance to show off some golfing skills brought together 26 teams for the annual Provident Insurance Golf Classic.

Competitors from across the North Island, plus a few from the South Island, attended the event hosted by Provident on the Narrows Course at Riverside Golf Club in Hamilton on November 21.

A team from Duncan & Ebbett in Hamilton won the ambrose format competition, with 4Guys Autobarn, Hamilton, and Farmer Autovillage, Tauranga, taking second and third place respectively.

Steve Owens, chief executive of Provident, says the classic has become a regular fixture on the industry’s social calendar and was a fun and relaxed occasion.

“We had about 102 people on the day and it’s all about spending a day on the golf course and networking with people in the trade, such as dealers, suppliers and our service partners,” he says.

“It’s good to get together and recognise you are all part of the same eco-system and be able to talk about how we can help each other, but at the same time have a bit of fun, play golf and have a few beers.

“It’s friendly, aggressive and competitive, although depending on how people’s rounds are going that can change. We have a lot of fun and a lot of laughs on the course.”

The event, which was in its sixth year, was once again blessed with sunshine and staff from UDC Finance provided refreshments out on the course.
