Captiva fuel hose fire fears

Holden has issued a recall on about 1,500 diesel-powered SUVs because of a potential fire risk due to problems with fuel feed hoses. The affected models are the 2012 Captiva 5 and Captiva 7 built between February 5 and November 2 of that year and fitted with the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine. Holden NZ says the cars are safe to drive but the issue means the fuel feed hose may rub against the air-conditioning suction pipe to cause a small hole develop. In Australia, where the recall affects more than 14,000 vehicles, a competition and consumer commission report says the result of the fault is “the fuel feed hose may wear, leading to the development of a fuel leak, posing a potential fire hazard”. The marque says no cars have experienced fire problems, although four owners across the Tasman have reported smelling diesel while driving. Kiwi owners should call their Holden dealer to discuss options. Repairs should take no longer than an hour with no cost to customers.
