Fresh slump for dealer numbers

The number of dealers on the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) fell by 103 last month, with the total at the end of May standing at 2,662.
The figure is the lowest since August 2012, when it stood at 2,657.
It is the second month in a row the total has dropped, falling from 2,841 in March.
The latest tally is also 218 lower than the 2,880 registered traders at the end of May 2024.
Dealer numbers have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,535 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
