Ford NZ recalls some utes

Ford New Zealand is recalling certain 2026.5 model-year Ranger double cabs to replace parts of the b-pillar trim. 

In the event of a crash, it may be possible for the side-curtain airbags to interact with the trim during inflation and not deploy as intended. 

The marque picked up the issue through internal routine testing and is unaware of any incidents in customer vehicles associated with the problem. 

The recall affects 2,602 units in this country and only certain 2026.5 double cabs. The majority are in Ford NZ and dealer stock, as well as 400 en-route to New Zealand. These are now under a temporary delivery and demonstration hold. 

The remainder, around 900 vehicles, have been delivered to customers and these have been prioritised as part of the repair process. 

“This is not a stop-drive recall,” says a spokesperson for Ford NZ. “Customers can continue to use their vehicles and all other airbags, including the front driver, front passenger, centre and knee airbags and side-thorax airbags, continue to operate as designed.” 

Owners using the FordApp, estimated at about 80 per cent, will have already received a notification if affected. Ford NZ will also contact affected customers directly via mail with further information and instructions when parts are ready. 

“We currently anticipate the remedy will be available from mid-September,” says the marque. “The required repair is estimated to take just under two hours and will be completed by an authorised Ford dealer free of charge. 

“Customers can check what recalls their vehicle may have open at any time by entering their VIN into the search feature on the Ford NZ recall and service action page www.ford.co.nz/support/recalls.

“Owners may also contact their authorised dealer for further information or enquiries may be directed to Ford’s customer relationship centre on 0800-367-369.
