Flick revels in ute’s past

Nissan has released a short film celebrating the Navara’s heritage on both sides of the Tasman ahead of its global reveal on November 19.

Since its down-under debut in December 1986, the model has evolved from a workhorse into versatile ute with 420,000 units sold across Australasia.

The heritage video, part of the marque’s Defy Ordinary campaign, traces the Navara’s evolution over four decades of Australian life – from early-morning starts on construction sites to boat ramps and weekend family adventures.

Andrew Humberstone, managing director of Nissan Oceania, says: “Every generation has learned from the previous one and every customer has taught us something about what matters most in a ute.”

He adds the new Navara is set to draw on the ute’s heritage, incorporating design elements that pay homage to previous generations while delivering advanced capability and technology. The ute will officially launch in New Zealand and Australia in the first half of 2026. Click here to watch the video.
