First DB11 finished today
The first of Aston Martin’s highly anticipated DB11 prestigious sports cars has rolled off the production line today. The DB11 – touted as heralding the start of a new era for Aston Martin – is being made in the UK factory in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The first DB11 came off production line today (New Zealand time), and first deliveries to UK customers be in October. The DB11, which replaces the DB9 model, is powered by a 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, producing 447kW of power and 700Nm of torque. The model has a top speed of 322kph, and is able to go from 0-100kph in 3.9 seconds. It is the first of seven new models to be launched over the next seven years, in line with Aston Martin’s “Second Century Plan”, which takes the 103-year-old company into its next century of operation. Aston Martin president and CEO, Andy Palmer, says he will personally assure the quality by inspecting the first 1000 cars. “It’s an exciting moment for the entire company when the first car of a new model goes into production. The DB11 is a special car and it heralds the start of a new and exciting era for Aston Martin.” The DB11 has received rave reviews since its launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It recently won a reader’s choice award in German motoring magazine, auto motor und sport, taking out the prestigious sports car category ahead of Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-Type SVR. To date, more than 3000 orders for the new DB11 have been received and they will all be hand-built at the company’s sports car production plant and headquarters in Gaydon. Earlier this year, Aston Martin announced the company’s second UK manufacturing facility will open in St Athan in Wales, where the new crossover will be built.
