Ferrari recalls 23,000 cars

Ferrari has issued a recall for nearly every car it has sold in the US since 2005, with the safety alert affecting more than 23,000 vehicles.

The Italian marque’s action follows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the US filing a report that concerns a potential problem with the braking system in those cars.

The report notes the brake fluid reservoir cap of Ferrari models from the past 17 years “may not vent properly, creating a vacuum inside the brake fluid reservoir, and resulting in a brake fluid leak that may lead to a partial or total loss of brake function”.

Ferrari estimates only one per cent of the 23,555 vehicles being recalled will be affected by the issue.

On cars with the problem, it will replace the brake reservoir cap for free and update the vehicle’s software to show a warning light when brake fluid levels get low.
