Ex-president takes on key role

MotorSport New Zealand’s board has appointed Shayne Harris, a former president of the organisation, as the sport’s chief steward.

The vacancy was created following the resignation of Wade Paterson after 12 years in the role.

Harris, pictured, who also is a former chief clerk of the course, brings a wealth of experience to the position and holds a gold race clerk of the course licence.

He was the recipient of a distinguished service award from Motorsport NZ in 2007 and nine years later was made a president d’honneur after his tenure as president from 2010-2016.

“I am delighted to be appointed into the role of chief steward,” says Harris.

“We have an amazing group of volunteers who make up the stewarding team and I am excited to start working with them in what I consider to be an extremely important role within motorsport.”
