EVs help Kiwis ‘feel calm’
New research suggests Kiwi drivers feel less stressed when they’re behind the wheel of an electric vehicle (EV) as opposed to driving a car with an internal combustion engine.
A survey shows 43 per cent of New Zealanders under 45 years old claim to feel calm and relaxed when out in an EV because it’s quieter and smoother than other vehicles.
More than a quarter – 28 per cent – of respondents also say low-emissions cars improve their mood and make them more mindful when driving.
The research was part of a special report commissioned by Avis New Zealand and conducted by YouGov Research.
Bryn McGoldrick, general manager, Avis New Zealand, says: “Our customers often say the first thing they notice about driving an EV is how quiet it is, and what our research shows is that it can have a positive effect on your well-being.”
Other findings from the research include that 32 per cent of motorists prefer driving an EV because it aligns with their views on sustainability, and 60 per cent agree an EV road trip is a more sustainable way to take a holiday.
Meanwhile, those under 45 years old in the survey appear to be the most image-conscious as 22 per cent say driving an EV makes them feel cool and 15 per cent add that it gives them bragging rights among friends and family.
