Electric car tops new sales
There were 10,603 new passenger vehicles registered in September, which was down by 10.5 per cent from 11,850 in the same month of last year.
Tesla’s Model Y, pictured, was the top model on 1,502 units, compared with zero in the same month a year ago, and accounted for 14.2 per cent of the market.
For the year-to-date, the Model Y has sold 2,092 units and has a 2.4 per cent share of trading activity.
Mitsubishi’s Outlander was the second most popular model last month on 867 registrations and an 8.2 per cent market share and its ASX was third on 410 and 3.9 per cent.
Suzuki’s Swift and Toyota’s Yaris Cross were next up on 337 and 328 units respectively, after sales rose by more than 100 per cent from the same month of 2021.
The Outlander leads the way year-to-date on 7,410 units, followed by Toyota’s RAV4 on 4,282 and the Suzuki Swift on 2,722.
Mitsubishi topped the marques’ ladder in September with 1,650 registrations – down from 1,917 in the same month a year ago – and 15.6 per cent of the market.
Next up were Tesla on 1,554 and 14.7 per cent and Toyota with 1,509 and 14.2 per cent. Kia and Suzuki completed the top five with 808 and 755 units respectively.
Mitsubishi is the leading marque year to date with 13,206 units and a 15.4 per cent market share.
Toyota is second with 11,937 registrations and 13.9 per cent, followed by Kia on 9,180 and 10.7 per cent.
Suzuki has had 6,024 sales year-to-date and Suzuki 6,022 to put both marques on seven per cent of the market.
The new-vehicle market has had 85,977 registrations over the first nine months of the year, a rise of 2.4 per cent up from the same period of 2021.
