Demand for commercials jumps
There were 3,084 new commercials registered last month, which was an increase of 67 per cent when compared with 1,847 in July 2023.
Ford’s Ranger was the top model with 757 units, up 46.7 per cent from 516 in the same month a year ago.
In second spot was the Toyota Hilux on 590 registrations, a year-on-year jump of 119.3 per cent from 269 units, and Mitsubishi’s Triton, pictured, was third with 270 after a 315.4 per cent increase from 65 sales.
The Ranger is also out front on the year-to-date ladder with 6,977 registrations and a 27.2 per cent share of the market.
Next is the Hilux on 4,359 and 17 per cent, and the Triton on 2,969 units and 11.7 per cent.
The market’s overall year-to-date total is flat with the 25,632 units only marginally below the 25,849 registrations at this stage of 2023.
On the marques’ ladder, Ford was top in July with 860 registrations, up 55.2 per cent from 554 units a year ago, and a market share of 27.9 per cent.
Toyota’s 778 registrations last month represented a 121 per cent increase from 352 in July 2023, while Mitsubishi was third on 270.
Ford tops the year-to-date charts with 7,918 registrations and a market share of 30.9 per cent. Toyota is second with 5,911 and 23.1 per cent and Mitsubishi is third on 2,997 and 11.7 per cent.
Used registrations rise
As for used-imported commercials, there were 484 registered in July compared with 338 in the same month last year for an increase of 43.2 per cent.
This brings the year-to-date total to 3,851, which is 0.9 per cent more than the 3,817 units registered at this stage a year ago.
Toyota’s Hiace was the leading model on 192 registrations and a market share of 39.7 per cent after its monthly tally jumped 92 per cent from 100 registrations in the previous July.
The Nissan NV350 was next on 61, up 52.5 per cent from 40 units over the same period, and Toyota’ s Regius was third after its registrations rose from 12 to 27.
The Hiace is the leading model year to date with 1,493 sales and a 38.8 per cent market share, and the NV350 is second on 548 units and 14.2 per cent.
Toyota was the top marque last month with 249 registrations, a 76.6 per cent increase from 141 a year ago, followed by Nissan with 97 units and Isuzu on 33.
Year to date, Toyota has 1,940 registrations and a 50.4 per cent market share. Nissan is next on 846 and 22 per cent, with Hino third on 201 and 5.2 per cent.
