Dealership branching out

A dealership in the Taranaki region is expanding its operations after ploughing millions of dollars into building a new headquarters and opening two branches.

Western Coast MG in Hawera was established by Craig and Jo Baylis in October 2023 after they took over the former Hawera Autocourt business from its retiring owner, Sue Goble, reports Stuff.

The couple have teamed up with dealer principal Jimmi Guillosson and a new $2 million headquarters on High Street, Hawera, is being built that will be three times the size of its current space.

Due to be completed in about 18 months, features of the new premises will include a six-car showroom, a five-bay workshop, offices, an electric vehicle charging space and a section for wheel and tyre alignments.

The company’s used car operation will also be centralised there, its owners told Stuff.

Western Coast MG also opened a branch in New Plymouth in November last year and a temporary store will open in Whanganui on March 1 while work on a new building, predicted to cost about $1m, takes place.
