Dealers register edges up
The number of dealers in New Zealand increased by six last month and stood at 2,882 at the end of July, according to figures released by the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR).
It means the total has risen for the past three months following falls in each of the 10 months prior that left the total at 2,865 in May.
However, July’s figure is 130 fewer than at the end of the same month in 2022 when 3,012 dealers were on the register.
The number of dealers has largely been falling since reaching a peak of 3,536 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
