Dealers need to update labels
Clean car discount (CCD) information that dealers must display on vehicles at point of sale will need to be changed next month.
From July 1, the feebate scheme is being updated, so the thresholds at which models are subject to rebates and fees will be different.
That means data displayed on vehicle emissions and energy economy labels (VEEELs) and online sales listings must also be updated so that correct information is provided to consumers.
“A highlighted tick-box symbol will appear on all labels printed from July to differentiate between the current and new versions,” explains Malcolm Yorston, technical manager of the Imported Motor Vehicle Industry Association.
“This is intended to help you keep track of which vehicles have had labels replaced as yard stock is being updated.”
There is a period of 14 days, ending on July 15, by which time dealers must have updated all VEEELs and online information. To find out more, click here.

The CCD is administered by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and is targeted at vehicles being registered in New Zealand for the first time. Those with no or low emissions may be eligible for rebates and high-emissions models may incur fees.
“From July 1, motor-vehicle traders will need to remove and replace existing labels with new labels, which will display the updated fees and rebates to consumers,” says a spokesman for Waka Kotahi.
“As the new labels will look almost identical to the current labels, a highlighted tick-box symbol will appear on all labels printed from July 1 to differentiate between the current and new label versions.
“Under the Energy Efficiency (Vehicle Energy Economy Labelling) Regulations 2007, it is a legal requirement to display the correct updated labels for vehicles on the yard and provide updated information for online listings.”
