Dealer numbers steady
Size of traders register falls for fourth month in a row and has shrunk by 229 over the past year.

The number of dealers on the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) remained steady last month, decreasing by two to stand at 2,631 at the end of July.
The total has fallen in each of the past four months after reaching 2,841 in March this year.
July’s tally is the lowest number on the register since June 2012, when there were 2,605 traders.
Last month’s figure is also 229 below the 2,860 recorded at the end of July 2024.
Dealer numbers have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,535 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
