Dealer numbers sliding
The number of dealers in New Zealand has fallen below the 3,000-mark, according to figures from the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR).
There were 2,994 traders on the register at the end of September, a drop of 10 from August’s figure of 3,004. It also marked the third month in a row where the total has fallen.
Registered dealer numbers were also 50 lower than at the same stage a year ago when the total stood at 3,044.
The figures have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,536 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Trading Standards, which falls under the remit of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
