Dealer numbers drop further

The number of dealers on the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) fell by 25 last month, with the total at the end of February standing at 2,887.

It means the size of the register has fallen for eight months in a row since reaching 3,020 in June last year and follows it tumbling by 28 in January.

The latest figure is also 140 lower than the 3,027 registered traders recorded at the end of February 2022.

Dealer numbers have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,536 in November 2017.

The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
