Dealer numbers continue fall

The number of dealers on the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR) fell by 24 last month, with the total at the end of August standing at 2,607.

Since reaching 2,841 in March this year, the tally has fallen in each of the past five months.

It is now at its lowest level since June 2012 when there were 2,605 registered traders nationwide.

Last month’s total is also down by 263 from the 2,870 recorded at the end of August 2024.

Dealer numbers have largely been in decline since hitting a high of 3,535 in November 2017.

The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
