Dealer numbers bouncing back
The number of dealers in New Zealand has risen for the second month in a row and stood at 2,876 at the end of June, according to figures released by the Motor Vehicle Traders Register (MVTR).
It was an increase of 11 from the 2,865 on the register in May, during which the total rose by five to end 10 consecutive months of decline.
However, June’s figure is 144 fewer than at the end of the same month in 2022 when 3,020 dealers were on the register.
The number of dealers has largely been falling since reaching a peak of 3,536 in November 2017.
The MVTR holds essential information about registered traders and their businesses. It is operated by Occupational Regulation, which is part of the market integrity branch of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
