Cyberster touches down
New Zealand’s first Cyberster, MG’s fully electric two-seater convertible sports car capable of 0-100kph in just over three seconds, has been delivered.
Scott Hobson, Giltrap MG’s dealer principal, has presented it to Bronwyn and Paul Walbran, long-time brand enthusiasts.
Paul is a 55-year member of Auckland MG Car Club. He’s also the name behind Paul Walbran Motors in west Auckland’s New Lynn, a garage specialising in historic MG models.
He says: “I bought my first MG in the mid-1960s and there has been a model from the marque in our garage ever since.
“This is the 12th MG we’ve owned. It’s been fascinating to witness the transition of the brand from our 1939 WA saloon from the 1930s across the decades in between to the very latest.
“Equally impressive is the evolution to full-electric motoring. It’s happened in such a relatively short period and the rate of change is astounding.”
The Walbrans’ Cyberster is the first to arrive on our shores for customer deliveries.
Harrie Yan, chief operating officer of MG Motor NZ, says: “The level of interest in Cyberster is incredible.
“I was lucky enough to have driven a pre-series around Auckland recently and have been amazed at the number of people taking photos of it.
“We’ve always said it’s a groundbreaking addition that represents a major leap forward in technology and design. If its levels of attention are anything to go by, then the team has got this vehicle spot on.
“It’s an exciting new halo model to recognise a century of the marque and, at the same time, announce the start of a new era.”
