Crosstrek has mighty SUV creds

The XV has evolved, been reimagined and rechristened as the all-new Crosstrek with next-generation symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD).

The SUV features the latest infotainment technologies and intuitive safety systems, and boasts sporty design with a much bolder exterior than its predecessor.

Three Crosstrek models will be available in New Zealand, with the Premium petrol variant powered by a direct injection, two-litre Boxer and lineartronic transmission with eight-speed paddle-shift manual mode.

The two hybrid variants include a premium specification model and feature a robust e-Boxer lineartronic transmission with seven-speed manual mode.

Wallis Dumper, Subaru of NZ’s managing director, says: “Eleven years ago, Subaru put the best things it has ever done into pioneering the small SUV category when we introduced the XV. Now we’re creating history again in a redefinition of the category we created with the all-new Crosstrek.

“It might be a small SUV, but it still has mighty SUV creds. It can zip through urban streets during the week and then access your hidden fishing spots on the weekend.

“It features 220mm of ground clearance, which is what separates it from most of its ‘pretender’ SUV competitors. Symmetrical AWD then propels the Crosstrek into a different capability realm compared to its ‘townie’ rivals.

“Driver confidence is underpinned by the Subaru Global Platform with a refined inner frame that increases cabin strength, and delivers a quieter and more comfortable ride.”

The vehicle’s cockpit boasts enhancements to increase user-friendliness, including – for the first time in a Subaru – the convenience of wireless smartphone Qi charging.

Extra new features include, but are not limited to, an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity, and phone charging, as well as a digital multi-view monitor with a 360-degree camera.

Subaru of NZ encourages potential Crosstrek customers to register interest ahead of June’s launch, and to find out about pricing and detailed specification when it’s announced.
