Company withdraws from port

C3 Ltd is reported to be closing its stevedoring operations in Auckland this month leaving about 100 staff without a job.

A Maritime Union of NZ (MUNZ) spokesman says employees were told of the company’s decision on August 28, reports the NZ Herald

The MUNZ believes around 115 employees, including casuals, are being made redundant. It’s understood the company’s last day of operation at Port of Auckland is September 20.

C3 Ltd is involved in cars and break-bulk cargo at the port. The move will leave Wallace Investments as the remaining private stevedore in Auckland.

In a letter dated August 13 from C3 to the MUNZ, seen and reported on by the NZ Herald, C3 says it planned “to issue notice of redundancy to permanent employees” on August 30. The letter referenced an “expired stevedoring collective agreement”.

C3, a Tauranga-based provider of product-handling solutions, works with exporters, importers and shipping lines across Australasia. Click here for the full story.
