Commercials suffer blow

There were 1,855 new commercials registered last month. That was down by 38.9 per cent from 3,038 in July 2022 and reflects changes to the clean car discount, with high emitters now attracting increased fees.

The Ford Ranger was first on the models’ ladder with 518 units, down 10.4 per cent from 578 in the same month a year ago. This gave it a 27.9 per cent market share.

Toyota’s Hilux was next with 270 registrations, a drop of 71.7 per cent over the same timeframe from 955 units.

Meanwhile, the fortunes of the Iveco Daily, pictured, have greatly improved and it was third on 82 units, compared with only 13 a year ago.

Nissan’s Navara and the Mitsubishi Triton completed the top five with 69 and 65 registrations, respectively.

Year to date, the Ranger is out front on 6,388 registrations and a 24.7 per cent market share. Next is the Hilux on 5,845 and 22.6 per cent.

Ford was top of the marques’ ladder in July with 556 units and a 30 per cent market share despite sales dropping slightly from 593 a year earlier.

Toyota was next on 355 units, down from 1,118 light commercial registrations in July 2022, and a 19.1 per cent share.

Completing the top five was Iveco, Isuzu and Fuso with 101, 92 and 87 sales respectively.

Toyota leads the year-to-date chart with 7,375 registrations and 28.5 per cent of the market, ahead of Ford on 6,989 and 27 per cent.

Hiace top model

As for used-imported commercials, there were 339 units registered in July for a year-on-year decline of 16.9 per cent from 408.

Toyota was the best-selling marque with 141 registrations and a market share of 41.6 per cent with Nissan next on 69 and 20.4 per cent.

The Toyota Hiace was the top model with 29.5 per cent of July’s market thanks to 100 sales, which was up from 95 a year ago.

Nissan’s NV350 was next with 41 sales and a 12.1 per cent share of activity, while the Hino Dutro was third on 24 units.
