Ranger and Hilux maintain their battle to be the sector’s leader as overall registrations drop year-on-year.

There were 2,825 new commercials registered last month, which was down by 24.5 per cent from 3,743 in August 2022.

The Ford Ranger led the models’ ladder with 842 units, down 9.9 per cent from 934 in the same month a year ago. This gave it a 29.8 per cent market share for August.

Toyota’s Hilux was next with 465 registrations, a drop of 48 per cent over the same timeframe from 894 units, and then Mitsubishi’s Triton on 153 units, which also fell by 48.7 per cent from 298.

Toyota’s Hiace and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, pictured, completed the top five with 152 and 98 registrations, respectively.

Year to date, the Ranger has 7,229 registrations and a 25.2 per cent market share to put it ahead of the Hilux on 6,308 and 22 per cent.

Ford was the top marque for new commercial vehicles in August with 912 units and a 32.3 per cent market share despite sales dipping from 945 a year earlier.

Toyota was next on 708 units, down 32.2 per cent from 1,004 registrations in August 2022, and a 25.1 per cent share.

Completing the top five was Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Mercedes-Benz with 153, 150 and 120 sales respectively.

Toyota leads the year-to-date chart with 8,079 registrations and 28.1 per cent of the market, ahead of Ford on 7,900 and 27.5 per cent.

As for used-imported commercials, there were 457 units registered in August for a year-on-year decline of 7.9 per cent from 496.

Toyota was the best-performing marque with 221 registrations and a market share of 48.4 per cent with Nissan next on 96 and 21 per cent.

The Toyota Hiace was the top model with 36.1 per cent of August’s market thanks to 165 sales, which was up from 125 a year ago.

Nissan’s NV350 was next with 50 sales and a 10.9 per cent share of activity, while the Hino Dutro was third on 23 units.
