Collectors’ cars fetch $7.6m

An online auction platform dedicated to classic, performance and collectible cars says the market for such vehicles in New Zealand and Australia remains strong after netting about $7.6 million in sales last month.
Collecting Cars says 96 lots were sold on its website in June, with sales being completed on each day of the month.
The company’s year-to-date sales down under now total just under 600 units, which it says is 47 per cent higher than during the same period last year.
Sale highlights from June include a 2022 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, pictured, fetching $740,000, a 2019 McLaren 720S being sold for A$329,000 (about NZ$356,000) and a 1999 Nissan Skyline (R34) GT-R V Spec changing hands for A$203,501 (about NZ$220,000).
A 2020 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4, a 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS with Weissach Pack and a 1986 Holden Commodore HDTV L SS Group A Plus Pack were also sold for more than six-figure sums.
Lee Hallett, head of Apac at Collecting Cars, says: “Australasian collector car sales remained solid despite the current economic sentiment, global news headlines and cold mid-year weather.”
A number of heritage number plate sales also took place in June, indicating local demand for rare and low-number combinations remains strong.
One of the top lots was a Queensland heritage plate that sold for A$565,000 (about NZ$611,000).
