Circuit’s flag finally falls

On March 25-26, the chequered flag will be waved for the final time for motorsport at the legendary Pukekohe Park.
The weekend’s theme reflects one of the most popular formats at the circuit during its decades as a premier venue for the sport in New Zealand – The Flying Farewell.
There will be the NAPA Central Muscle Cars, Super Trucks, V8s, RYCO 24.7 V8 Utes, Nexen Tyre Mazda Series and Motul Honda Cup.
It will be the first time in many years the super trucks will have thundered their way around the track and their participation will be a guaranteed crowd-puller.
A unique selection of GT cars will also star over the final weekend. One GT-class race at the meeting will be based on the fastest 36 cars in the North Island Endurance Series.
It will feature GT3s and GT4s from Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, McLaren, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Nissan and others in two no-holds barred one-hour sprints.
The second category – the Open GT – will be free of restrictions on horsepower, tyre allocation and driver classification with organisers aiming to unleash monsters such as the Crawfords, Brabham BT62 and Renault RS01 in shorter races when lap records could take a battering.
The Flying Farewell will mark the only time drivers will get to practice and compete over the weekend on both of the iconic circuit’s layouts.
