Chery expands line-up

Two variants of Chery’s Tiggo 8 petrol model – a seven-seat family SUV – are joining the brand’s line-up in New Zealand.

The Urban and Ultimate variants come equipped with Chery’s most powerful fossil-fuelled engine to date, a two-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit producing 180kW of power and 375Nm of maximum torque.

The motor works in harmony with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the Tiggo 8 is available in two and all-wheel drive.

The engine has a combined fuel rating of 8.1l/100km and emits 191g/km of carbon dioxide from the Urban 2WD. It also has a maximum non-braked towing capacity of 750kg. While braked, it’s 1,300kg.

“We are excited to introduce the Tiggo 8 petrol to the market, representing the next evolution of our commitment to outstanding vehicles," says Lucas Harris, chief operating officer of Chery Australia and New Zealand.

“With its combination of luxury, performance and advanced features, we believe it will provide drivers with excellent value and an extraordinary driving experience.”

The Tiggo 8 offers a luxurious interior across both variants. This starts with synthetic leather seats finished in black or optional brown trim with the Ultimate, a premium Sony sound system with up to 10 speakers and multi-colour ambient lighting for the first two rows.

Chery has also included air-quality system which automatically engages a purifying system when it detects polluted air. Both variants have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, offline navigation and voice controls for actions ranging from setting the climate to closing windows.

The Tiggo 8’s passive safety features include front, front side and centre, rear side, driver knee and side-curtain airbags.
Its advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assistance.

As one of the marque’s larger models, the Tiggo 8 measures 4,720mm long, 1,860mm wide and 1,705mm high. It boasts a 2,710mm wheelbase. These dimensions allow the SUV “to be at home navigating city streets and deliver a spacious interior for seven passengers”.

Luggage capacity is competitive with 117 litres on offer when all seats are in use. Folding the third row increases space to 479.

The Urban starts at $39,990 and the Ultimate AWD is priced from $44,990, plus on-road costs. They are covered by Chery’s seven-year and unlimited kilometre warranty, and roadside assistance.
