Cheapest new car given chop
What was the cheapest new car in the domestic market has been dropped by Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand as marques increasingly focus on SUVs and compact crossovers.
The Mitsubishi Mirage, pictured, has been axed from the carmaker’s local line-up at the same time as its withdrawal from US showrooms.
The last Mirage models brought into New Zealand were sold in July and only a few pre-registered versions are still listed for sale online, reports Stuff.
Recently priced at $21,990, the Mirage was the cheapest new vehicle available to Kiwis. That title has now been inherited by the Kia Picanto GT-Line at $24,490.
Mitsubishi’s New Zealand range is now made up of four SUVs – the ASX, Eclipse Cross, Outlander and Pajero Sport – and the Triton ute.
The Mirage is the latest hatchback to exit the market and follows the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai’s i20, except for its top-spec N variant, and Volkswagen Polo, reports Stuff.
