‘Champion for the industry’

Steve Vermeulen has been appointed by Trade Me Motors as its automotive industry relationships manager.

Vermeulen, pictured, has more than 30 years’ experience across independent and franchise service, national motoring advisory, product and retail marketing, original equipment manufacturer, used-import sectors and media.

Head of Trade Me Motors, Jeremy Wade, says Vermeulen will play a pivotal role in the business. “We’re stoked to have Steve joining the team. The purpose of Steve’s role is to significantly enhance our integration with the industry, and to prioritise engagement with industry bodies in a meaningful and permanent way.”

The newly created role will operate independently of Trade Me Motors’ sales and product teams. Wade says: “Steve’s diverse experience will be pivotal in broadening our understanding of key industry issues beyond vehicle sales alone, and allow us to offer informed viewpoints and meaningful support. He will be a champion for the industry.”

Vermeulen says: “It makes sense for Trade Me Motors to have a voice in the industry around market and consumer behaviour. My goal is to ensure Trade Me Motors is seen as a trusted and informed voice across even more automotive matters.”

He adds immediate priorities include active industry engagement, and assessing current challenges and opportunities. Additionally, he will play an “integral” role in extending the research and delivery of insights the industry can leverage.

“I can’t recall a more dynamic period of change in the automotive sector,” says Vermeulen. “We’re experiencing significant changes in brands and types of vehicles available, but current considerations around right to repair, emissions standards and supply are all adding complexity.”

Staying informed as the industry evolves will be “crucial for Trade Me to effectively engage and support its industry partners”, adds Vermeulen, who has begun meeting with Trade Me Motors’ dealer advisory council and dealer clients.
