Car-lifting pensioner prank
A group of pensioners have been awarded a prize for “growing old disgracefully” after taking part in a photoshoot that appeared to show them lifting cars and pulling a minivan.
Residents at homes run by Renaissance Care in Scotland had pictures taken of them performing various exercises inspired by the World’s Strongest Man competition as part of an April Fools’ Day joke this year.
The resident-led prank was inspired by a health and wellbeing programme at the homes, with the photos billed as the group preparing for Scotland’s Strongest Pensioner Championships.
Besides appearing to show off their might with vehicles, residents were also pictured taking on a number of deadlifting challenges, reports STV News.
Their efforts for the joke led to them receiving a Growing Old Disgracefully gong this month at the UK’s NAPA Awards, which celebrate those who maintain a zest for life in their older age.
Care home resident Robert Roy, 81, says they had a “great laugh lifting the fake weights and pretending to pull the minivan”.
“We are all really competitive and have been joking about who is the strongest, so we wanted to have a little fun.”
