Capital Lexus on the move

Lexus of Wellington has moved location following significant investment into a fully enclosed facility for the region.
The marque’s standalone dealership in Taranaki Street is part of a global Lexus trend to transform its showrooms into more versatile spaces for client convenience, and to host opportunities for the business and local partners.
Derek Tilyard, chief executive of the franchise, says: “Thank you to our incredible customers for their unwavering support over the years and our dedicated staff who have made this move possible.
“An exceptional experience is at the heart of what we do and we’ve kept this in mind while establishing our showroom. With its luxurious interiors and brave design, our it embodies everything Lexus stands for.”
The multi-level building spans 2,000sqm, which is significantly larger than the previous facility. It has a customer lounge, offices and vehicle displays on the ground floor.
All cars, new and used, are housed indoors. There is ample concierge customer parking on the ground floor with a direct vehicle entry from the street.
Andrew Davis, vice-president of Lexus NZ, says the facility reflects where the marque is heading in this country.
He adds: “Lexus has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we were recently thrilled to achieve the number-two slot in luxury new-vehicle sales.
“Investment in new and refurbished dealerships by our partners supports the local growth of the brand.”
An advantage with the building is that the sales and service departments are located in proximity, providing an opportunity for customers to connect with Lexus technicians.
The new service centre includes eight service bays, a dedicated tyre bay and advanced wheel-alignment equipment.
The investment in Lexus of Wellington follows hard on the heels of relocations and new dealership developments in Auckland and Christchurch.
The recent opening of the new Lexus of East Auckland franchise in Botany marked a milestone for the brand by expanding its presence while filling a gap for customers in the city’s east and south.
In May 2024, a new Lexus of Christchurch opened in Tuam Street and a new Lexus of Auckland City opened late last year in Newmarket, Auckland, after relocating from Grey Lynn.
Davis says: “Lexus NZ is delighted by the commitment to the marque by our dealer network. We are supporting the investment in stores with marketing efforts, such as sponsoring the ASB Classic tennis tournament, Auckland Design Week, and Lexus Urban Polo events in Christchurch and Auckland.”
