BYD aims to be biggest carmaker
BYD’s chairman Wang Chuanfu has set his sights on the Chinese company becoming the world’s largest carmaker within five years.
Wang, pictured, outlined his ambition to nearly 1,000 shareholders attending the firm’s annual shareholder meeting at its Shenzhen headquarters on June 16, reports Reuters.
BYD sold 4.6 million vehicles worldwide in 2025 and was sixth in the global rankings.
Wang told the meeting the company plans to increase output of its second-generation Blade Battery, which he believes is key to securing market growth.
He also highlighted BYD’s strong exports and technological advancements as factors that will help boost sales.
“BYD will truly become the No 1 automaker globally in terms of scale in five years,” he said.
Toyota Motor was the top-selling carmaker in 2025 after selling more than twice as many vehicles as BYD, reports Reuters.
