Brands slash prices

Great Wall Motors has cut the prices of its hybrid Haval Jolion, pictured, and H6 models in New Zealand, with the falling cost of raw materials used in its hybrid batteries among the key factors behind the move.

The Jolion Lux Hybrid is now available from $36,990 including GST and on-road costs, while the Ultra Hybrid is priced from $39,990. Neither model receives a rebate or fee under the clean car discount (CCD) scheme.

Pricing for the H6 Lux Hybrid now starts at $43,990, while the H6 Ultra Hybrid can be purchased from $46,990. Both models also fall into the CCD’s zero band.

The price reductions, which have been in effect since July 6, mirror those recently made by the Chinese carmaker to the fully electric GWM Ora.

Meanwhile, the GWM Tank 300 is now on sale in New Zealand and comes in two electrified variants, the Lux Hybrid and Ultra Hybrid.

Both feature a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor to make up to 258kW and 615Nm of torque, with power sent through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The Tank 300 Lux Hybrid is priced from $56,990 before on-road costs and standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 360-degree camera system.

The Ultra Hybrid version has 18-inch wheels, Nappa leather accented seats, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, a nine-speaker sound system, and a locking front differential. Pricing starts at $61,990 plus ORC.

Both hybrids attract a penalty of $4,485 under the CCD.

Standard safety and driver assistance systems across the Tank range include adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Tesla prices tumble

Tesla New Zealand has further slashed the prices of its vehicles on sale here following earlier cuts in January, February and April this year.

Its Model 3 is now priced at $62,500 before on-road costs, or $64,587 including ORC, and comes with a CCD rebate of $7,015.

As for the marque’s Model Y, the rear-wheel drive variant now costs $67,500 before ORCs or $69,587 drive away. It also attracts the full discount under the government’s clean car scheme

Tesla NZ only sells those two models here after removing the Model S and Model X from the Kiwi market after the brand stopped making right-hand-drive versions of those units this year.
