Brand recalls two models

GWM has issued safety recalls for two of its models after identifying potential communication problems with their engine and transmission control systems.

The marque’s latest alert is for hybrid versions of the Tank, pictured, and Cannon plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) where the shielding ring of the high voltage wiring harness is not properly grounded, reducing the effectiveness of the electromagnetic shielding.

The problem affects some units from the 2025 model year and can lead to interference that causes abnormal communication with the engine and transmission control systems, potentially resulting in warning lights illuminating, torque reduction and hybrid system cooling issues.

“The countermeasure is to install gaskets on the three high-voltage cables at the point where they enter the hybrid transmission,” says GWM.

“This will ensure proper contact for grounding the cable shielding and prevent electronic interference with vehicle systems.”

The recall notices from December 22 advise owners that GWM dealerships are committed to inspecting vehicles as soon as possible, free of charge.

“Owners should contact their nearest GWM dealership to arrange a convenient time for the recall repair work to be conducted,” it adds.

RAM 1500, model year 2019

Recall issued: December 5. The hazard: The curtain airbag inflator on about 17 vehicles may rupture because of compressed gas rapidly escaping from the inflator and material potentially being propelled into the vehicle, which may cause injury to occupants. What to do: Present vehicles to a RAM service centre to have work carried out.

Volkswagen Touareg, model years 2019-25

Recall issued: December 4. The hazard: Touareg vehicles with hybrid drive systems and of a limited production period may have deviations on the high-voltage battery system. What to do: Book vehicle into a Volkswagen dealer.

Ford Mustang, model years 2024-25

Recall issued: November 4. The hazard: Supercharger upgrade kits sold as aftermarket accessories include an updated powertrain control module (PCM) calibration that incorrectly disabled level two functional safety features. This could lead to a failure to prevent unintended acceleration or unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash. What to do: No fix at this stage.
