Boost for new commercials

There was some good news for franchised dealerships last month as they saw a year-on-year rise in commercial registrations of 0.9 per cent.
The market notched up 3,815 sales in May compared to 3,780 in May 2023. So far in 2024, some 19,203 new commercials have been registered.
Last month’s ladder for models was topped by Ford’s Ranger, pictured, on 1,067 units. That was up by 8.5 per cent from 983 in May last year.
Toyota’s Hilux was second with 709, down by 4.6 per cent, and Mitsubishi’s Triton came third on 444 on the back of a 24 per cent increase.
The top five was completed by the Toyota Hiace with 234 units, up 49 per cent, and Ford’s Transit on 179, up by 103.4 per cent.
The Ranger remains the most popular model year to date and has recorded 5,333 registrations to clinch a 27.8 market share.
Next is the Hilux on 3,179 units and 16.6 per cent, and the Triton with 2,293 and 11.9 per cent.
The blue oval was May’s most popular marque with 1,246 units registered. That total was up by 16.1 per cent from 1,073 in the same month of last year. Toyota was second on 991, Mitsubishi third on 444, Isuzu fifth on 188 and LDV fifth on 132.
Ford also leads the way year to date after completing 6,015 registrations for a 31.3 per cent share of the market.
Toyota follows on 4,373 and 22.8 per cent and Mitsubishi completes the top three with 2,294 and 11.9 per cent.
