BMW bumps up charging network

BMW New Zealand is closing in on the milestone of having 150 of the marque’s Wallbox Generation 3 charging units installed at public destinations across the country.

The company is on a mission to boost EV charging infrastructure and has 144 chargers at 65 locations across the North and South islands, including hotels, motels, golf retailers, golf courses, restaurants and holiday parks.

It says the expansion of its charging network provides greater convenience for those who drive an electrified BMW or those with vehicles that feature compatible charging hardware.

Adam Shaver, BMW New Zealand managing director, says a strategic approach has been taken to the deployment of the chargers.

“Public charging infrastructure is a critical topic when planning drives and holidays across our beautiful country – particularly at this time of year – so we are delighted to see our network grow and provide an array of options for EV owners that cater to their different needs,” he adds.

“Our plan has always been to provide a range of solutions for drivers and their families, whether they are playing a round of golf or staying in a holiday park.”

The growth of the public charging network aligns with BMW’s commitment to electromobility and offering New Zealanders a broad choice of new electrified vehicles, both battery electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

This year it will be introducing three more PHEVs – the X3 xDrive30e, 550e xDrive and M5 Touring – to its line-up.
