Audi NZ ready for electric first

Audi’s Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback – the first compact electric SUVs from the marque – will be hitting the New Zealand market from April next year.

The brand with four rings has announced pricing and specifications for the models coming to New Zealand, with online reservation deposits for the cars able to be made from February 1, 2023.

Dean Sheed, general manager of Audi New Zealand, says: “The Q4 e-tron was released as an all-new name plate in some markets overseas in April 2021.

“Since then, we have been working hard to secure the model for our market. We know this model has been highly anticipated, and we are really excited to welcome this compact fully electric SUV to market next year.

“Outside of Europe, UK, and USA we are only the fourth market to launch the Q4 e-tron globally.”

The range boasts two body styles – SUV and Sportback – and two drive variants, the Advanced or Q4 40 e-tron, and S-Line or Q4 50 e-tron quattro.

Spearheaded by the S-Line quattro model with a maximum output of 220kW, the Sportback variant has a range of up to 522km and the SUV 511km.

The entry-level Advanced model has a maximum output of 150kW and ranges of up to 542km and 528km for the Sportback and SUV respectively.

There are three alloy wheel versions available, ranging in size from 19 to 21 inches depending on the variant and packs selected.

Advanced models come standard with 19-inch 5-W-Spoke “Aero” alloys in Graphite grey and the S-Line variants come standard with 20-inch 5-Y-Spokes, Graphite grey alloys. Both can be updated to 21-inch platinum grey Audi Sport wheels with the style pack.

On the inside, the instrument panel is divided into separate areas and integrates two displays. A separate horizontal operating panel houses the shifter for selecting the gears.

S-Line models feature sports seats in black nappa leather and the Advanced models come standard with leather/leatherette upholstery.

Powering the S-Line models are two electric motors for the electric all-wheel drive that generate a maximum output of 220kW and deliver a sprint from 0 to 100kph in 6.2 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Q4 40 e-tron has an electric motor that drives the rear wheels, with output of 150kW and a 0-100kph time of 8.5 seconds.

Standard assist systems in the SUVs include Audi pre-sense front and rear, which can recognise vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles, adaptive cruise control, and lane-change assist. Some of the extras on the S-Line model are park assist plus and a 360-degree camera.

Matrix LED headlights feature on both models, which are available in a choice of eight colours, including the new metallic shade aurora violet.

Further customisation options are available with a sound pack that includes a Sonos sound system and heated steering wheel, and a style pack that offers a panoramic glass roof.

Pricing starts from $99,990 plus on-road costs.
